I Really Don't Care. Do U?

Just when you think things can't get any stranger, they do.  Melania Trump made a personal decision this week to take a trip down to the border to visit detention centers where these children that have been separated from their families have been staying.  That in and of itself is a great gesture considering there haven't been many high profile visits from the Trump Administration to the border since the whole child separation story hit the news.

The problem with Melania's trip is that it was overshadowed by her coat.  Yes, I said her coat.  The green coat that Melania wore on the trip had a very large message on the back in bold white lettering.  the message simply read, "I Really Don't Care.  Do U?"

I have a couple of very large issues with this, and the first of which concerns Melania and her personal decision to wear that coat on the trip...or own it at all as the First Lady for that matter.  Looking at the coverage in the news about the trials and tribulations at the border, how could Melania have thought for a second that wearing a coat that clearly states you DO NOT CARE would be a good decision by any stretch of the imagination?

Second, with all of the people surrounding Melania as she prepared to leave on this trip, and while she was on the trip, why did someone, ANYONE, not stand up and say, "Madame First Lady, DO NOT WEAR THAT COAT!"

This shows more than ever the disconnect that exists in this Administration.  To add to the outrage, the First Lady wore the jacket as she boarded her plane at Andrews Air Force Base, and was not wearing it when she deplaned in McAllen, Texas.  Then, when travelling back home after the day, and after the media outrage had went very public, she wore the jacket again when she deplaned back at Andres Air Force Base after the trip.  Why would you do that after it was very clear at that point that the public did not like the message the jacket seemed to give?

The First Lady's team put out a statement once everything hit the media that read, "It's a jacket.  There was no hidden message.  After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."  They are right, there isn't a hidden message.  There is a clearly represented message in bold white lettering right on the back of the jacket for everyone to see.

Then to contradict what the First Lady's team put out, Donald Trump, once Melania returned home, Tweeted, "'I DON'T REALLY CARE. DO U?'  written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media.  Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!"  That, as we all know, is a completely ridiculous falsehood.  We know that because we are used to it from this Administration, but also because a Republican close to the White House sent a message to the media that this explanation was, "revisionist history."  The Republican, who is supportive of Donald Trump, said that the White House communications staff met to discuss how to fix this jacket issue after it became a story.  They were also proud with the response (Tweet from the President above) that they came up with, even though it is clear to anyone with a fraction of common sense that the response is complete horse dookie.

When I heard Melania was making the trip I was pleased.  When the media began to talk about the jacket, I just thought to myself, "Here we go again!"  Then the administration talks about how they want the media to cover the meat and potatoes of the trip and how great it was that Melania made the trip, instead of talk about her jacket.  Well let me make it clear that Melania's trip was not the news story because the fact that she wore that jacket was disgraceful, and the fact that no one stopped her from wearing that jacket was disgraceful, and the fact that the Administration didn't own it but instead tried to spin a complete lie about it is disgraceful.  Are you seeing a trend here?

If that jacket had not been worn, the news coverage would have been great; but the jacket was worn and it wasn't.  It is no different than Donald Trump lambasting the media on a regular basis for all of the negative coverage he gets.  Well, if he would talk like a president, stop denigrating people and organizations, and stop acting so UnPresidential, his news coverage would be good.  He brings the coverage that he gets upon himself.  He has this weird symbiotic relationship with Fox News and Fox and Friends, and they cover stories in ways that he wants them to.  The problem is that they don't cover the facts.  They stretch, reframe, or even omit the facts to make stories look positive for the President.

This is all just sad.  And to answer the question....I DO CARE!  Obviously more than you.  This gave the term, "Wear your emotions on your sleeve" a whole new meaning.

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
