I need to take a break from Politics, so I am going to blog about a few stories today that have great endings; endings that will warm your heart. It's time for some good news for a change.
This first story comes out of the UK. A Headmaster and staff saved the life of a 4 year old girl who collapsed and stopped breathing in class. Bill James, the Headmaster of the school, was working in his office at the school when he heard two teachers yelling for help.
He responded and found that Adela, the 4 year old, was limp and had stopped breathing after collapsing in class. Bill immediately jumped in, realizing that the little girl's heart had stopped. He was supported by his staff and he began to give the girl chest compressions and rescue breaths.
After 2 minutes, and as a result of the St. John Ambulance Training the staff had went through, the little girl began breathing again, was taken to the hospital, given antibiotics and was released to her mother a few hours later.
Bill and his staff are up for the St. John Ambulance Everyday Heroes Award for 2018.

Here is another story of a person putting their own life in danger to save the life of another. This story takes place in Paris, France. A migrant from Mali was compared to a superhero after he scaled up the side of a building to get to a child who was dangling 4 stories above the ground.
Mamoudou Gassama, 22 years old, was videotaped climbing very fast up the front of the building, and then saving the small child.
After the rescue, the mayor of Paris called Gassama "Spiderman of the 18th" and thanked him for his act of bravery on social media.
Gassama had moved from Mali months prior with a dream of making a life in Paris. That dream came true for him on the following Monday, when Gassama was able to meet with Emmanuel Macron, President of France. The President granted Gassama French Citizenship and also gave him a job on the Paris Fire Brigade. When asked why he did what he did, he replied that he didn't think about it, and that he climbed up and God helped him.

It is in times of tragedy where we often see the best come out in people. As the Las Vegas Shooting was occurring, many concert attendees and some people who just happened to be in the area, instead of running away to safety, put themselves in the line of fire by getting others to safety, combed the grounds for survivors, used belts and other common items as tourniquets and dressing to keep the injured alive, and drove injured in the backs of their cars and trucks to nearby hospitals. Without the good Samaritans who stepped in and helped even though they were putting their own lives at greater risk, the outcome would have been far worse.
This is the same behavior we saw occur after 9/11 occurred. Selfless actions taken by people who could have easily walked away and saved themselves, but who instead put the lives of others before their own. That says a lot about a person.

So these are just three examples of stories that make you feel good to be a human being. There is so much negative news out there these days. It seems that every week we hear about another mass shooting, terrorist act somewhere in the world, or other great tragedy. What we need to remember are the stories like those above that truly show the spirit of humanity. The stories like those above are what we need to define ourselves by.
For a moment in the dark of night as I created this Blog, I smiled and forgot about all of the news that has been dragging me down lately. Thank you to those of you out there who have put others first and accomplished great things.
On a happy note....
