Collusion: Is it a 'Witch Hunt'?

We have all heard it out of Trump's mouth and seen the term on Twitter countless times over the course of the Mueller Investigation; WITCH HUNT.  Donald Trump loves more than anything to refer to the Mueller Investigation as a Witch Hunt.  So the question I pose in the title of this blog is simple.  Is it a Witch Hunt?

First let me start with the dictionary definition of Witch Hunt:

Merriam Webster defines Witch Hunt as 'The searching out and deliberate harassment of those (such as political opponents) with unpopular views.'

Essentially, Donald Trump has said scores of times that Robert Mueller's Investigation is going on simply to harass him and his administration because they have unpopular views, and not because he or those around him have done anything wrong.  He stands by the fact that Mueller will find no collusion; another word Trump loves to hear himself say out loud, often with a long drawn out 'colluuuusion' escaping his lips.

I want to deal specifically in the facts of the investigation to this point, so since we have reached the one year mark of the investigation, I think it is important to list the current status and findings in the investigation that have become public.  So here is some of what we have thus far:

1. George Papadopoulos lied to the FBI about Russian contacts.
2. Paul Manafort and Rick Gates Allegedly laundered millions and conspired against the USA.
3. A Dutch lawyer, Alex van der Zwaan, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and is serving time.
4. Michael Flynn lied to the FBI about the Russian Ambassador.
5. Russians were engaged in an elaborate scheme to sway the election in Trump's favor.
6. There have been 5 Guilty Pleas in the first year and indictments of 19 people and 3 companies.
7. There have been over 40 interviews performed by the Mueller Team.
8. Michael Cohen, personal lawyer to President Trump, had his office, home and hotel room raided and is under criminal investigation resulting from a referral from the Robert Mueller.

Now, we look at just what has been accomplished thus far in the investigation, and it is easy to understand why Trump and his administration seem to be doing everything in their power to discredit in any way the Mueller team and Mueller himself.  The amount of incriminating details contained within the descriptions of each of the items above, which are just some of the things that have come out in the public regarding the Mueller Investigation, are mind boggling to say the least, and yet the President continues to discount the investigation, call it a witch hunt, and say that there is no collusion.  Collusion seems to be the only word the President can say at times.

This investigation, regardless of what supporters of Trump think, is important.  Not only is it important, it is resulting in some major findings that have become public, and likely more that have not been made public to this point.  It has only been a year, which in regard to the investigative process at a level such as this, is no time at all.

The President and his talking heads need to step back and let the process take its course.  If Donald Trump is innocent and has done nothing wrong, why not stop lying about everything (3001 documented lies and falsehoods as of April 30th) and come clean with the American Public.

This President tells lies and falsehoods on a level never seen before in Washington, or probably anywhere for that matter, and he wonders why the media concentrates on what he says and tweets so much and not on other things.  First, the media does cover other things as well, but Donald Trump is his own worst nightmare when it comes to the media.  His staffers must be on pins and needles every time he opens his mouth, because what comes out is nearly always a long ramble of incoherent partial facts that are manipulated, lies, and self promotion to the level of ridiculousness.

So to answer the question of the day, "Is it a Witch Hunt?"  No, it isn't.  It is a very well orchestrated investigation into the activities of those surrounding the Trump Administration during and after his run for Presidency to determine what wrong doings occurred, what laws were broken, what Russian connections existed, and who within the President's circle of trust to include himself will come out on the back end as having broken the law, broken ethical standards, etc.  In the end, all of the truth will come out, and Mueller, someone who is highly respected by both Democrats and Republicans, was the best choice for this investigation.

Why is this investigation important?  Well, if I need to answer that question for you none of what I have written thus far has set in.

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
