So My Wife Got A Call

I want to talk about something that happened to my wife a day ago, and how it truly establishes where we are as a country at this point.

I have said before that it feels as though we have come to a point of division in the United States similar to that which existed before our own Civil War.  You may laugh, but really look at the discourse that exists in America today.  It isn't civil.  It is hate filled and not simply verbal as it once was.

Physical violence, murder, and hatred...often times politically motivated or fueled by political partisanship.  The current political atmosphere in the United States today is one that has led to the ends of friendships, the end of family relationships, and more.

Politics isn't just a thing that exists any longer.  Politics has permeated our lives to such an extent that we make life decisions about who to continue loving and supporting based in part by what others' political views are.

I will be perfectly honest right now.  It got to the point that I couldn't handle the information I was seeing from some people, so over the past 3 years, I have blocked 162 people on social media who at some point in my life, I called friends and brothers and sisters-in-arms, simply to keep my sanity.

Now, this is about what my wife went through yesterday.  My wife received a phone call from a number that stated 'NO CALLER ID'.  The individual, a man, asked my wife twice if she was my wife.  Upon her saying yes, the individual berated my wife, asking her why my fat ass is on twitter saying so much negative stuff about Trump.

Now, my wife handled the conversation very professionally, said her piece and hung up, but the fact that my wife got a phone call from an anonymous person who wanted to spew hate and discontent at her because of my Twitter account is just unfathomable.

My wife's cell number used to be our home number many years ago, so that means that whomever this was took time out of there day after being on Twitter to find a number to call and likely yell at me for speaking my opinion (and truth) about various subjects on Twitter.

It could be a person I had discourse with on Twitter, or someone who just saw my responses and posts and became mad, but either way, this person took time to find a number and call, which is just sad.

So this is where we are.  We argue about statues erected in the South to honor people who fought for the continuation of slavery.  We argue about what the Confederate Flag stands for.  We argue that Fine People are on both sides in Charlottesville, when one side consisted of a group of horrible human beings carrying torches and screaming things like, 'The Jews will not replace us!'  We argue about comments made by the President like, 'Shit hole Countries' (in reference to countries from which non-white people come), and 'Pocahontas' (Trump referring to Elizabeth Warren, even at an event honoring the Code Talkers and many times since), and 'Grab em' by the Pussy', and 'Son's of Bitches' (referring to NFL players who kneel), and so many other things that were said.

We argue about Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make our country dirtier, and Trump calling the majority of immigrants rapists, drug dealers and murderers.  We argue about the entire far right using terms like 'Invasion' and 'MS-13' and many other terms to describe immigration.

Let me clear up a few things.  The statues need to come down and be relocated into museums where the history can be learned.  They shouldn't be in town squares.  The Confederate Flag stands for hate, and that is it.  There were not fine people on both sides.  One group was filled with nothing but unadulterated hatred for those who are not WASPs.  The President has said countless hateful and racist things during his tenure, and to say otherwise is just wrong.  Tucker Carlson is a racist.  If you haven't realized that yet, look closer.  Those using spin words to make immigration look worse than it is are all doing it to push a political agenda.

The things we argue about shouldn't be arguments.  This stuff above is the literal tip of the iceberg.  There are countless examples, and yet a contingent of the right stands behind the president and his administration, claiming he doesn't lie and he has done greater things for this country than anyone who has come before him.

None of that is true.  The facts are true, and those don't even mean anything in today's world.  I sent a private message to a man several months ago who has posted a meme on his Facebook page that depicted some political data...that was completely untrue.  I put the proper data that I gathered from the Bureau of Labor Statistics into the private message I sent and told him he should pull down what he posted because it wasn't true.  His reply to me truly sums up the mentality of the most devout Trump supporters today.  He replied, 'It doesn't matter if it isn't true.  It still proves my point.,

That statement is what Trump wakes up believing every day of his life.  He spreads lies and misdirection every time he speaks, and overtly so.  It is so bad that the things he says can be debunked in literal seconds with the facts, but he has his devout followers who listen to him and Fox News alone, and you won't find the facts in either of those places.

We are coming apart at the seams, and if we don't do something about it, our form of government is going to slowly erode.  Look at Washington right now.  The Mueller Report cites numerous obstruction items, Congress is trying to vet the information, and Trump continues to stonewall them at every turn; suing companies and banks to get them to not release his financial documentation.  He also is telling everyone to not testify in front of the House and Senate committees.  He is overtly obstructing his own investigation in plain view and not a soul is doing anything about it.

What in the hell has happened to our country?

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
