What is the End Game for Trump?

Trump has and always will be about one thing and one thing only....TRUMP.  His name means everything to him because it is his brand.  As a business man, Trump has went through countless business failures.  I will start this blog with a list of many of those failures.  Please understand, this is not an all-inclusive list.

1. Trump Tower, Tampa Florida. Trump sold his name to developers to build what was being marketed as "so spectacular that it will redefine both Tampa's skyline and the market's expectations of luxury."  So many people invested and purchased units, and then it sat a decade later, an empty lot.

2. Mississippi Casino. Trump convinced Gulfport to lease 4.5 acres of public land, despite considerable opposition from the public, and he convinced the Gaming Commission, which for a while refused, to grant him a gaming license.  Less than a year later, not a single piece of dirt had been touched on the site.

3. Trump Atlanta. In 2006 Trump was going to embark on a 'no risk' venture as he called it in Atlanta.  363 condo units within two 47 story towers in Atlanta.  There were around 100 presales already completed by 2010, but the property was foreclosed on.

4. Trump Villas, Grenadines. A Swiss-Italian banker struck a deal with Trump to erect 15 custom villas around his hotel and put another 10 along the resort's golf course.  Trump also agreed to operate the golf course and stand-alone casino.  It didn't help the business, and the banker sold out to an Irish Billionaire who immediately ended the deal with Trump in 2010.

5. Trump Ocean Resort, Baja.  Trump's organization sold pre-sales of condo units to over 250 people saying that they would be able to, "relax by the infinity-edge pool, margarita in hand, as the cabana boy brings fresh towels." Trump also said in the book purchasers received that no words or pictures "can possibly describe what is about to take shape here, but it is certainly going to be the most spectacular place in all of Mexico."  Well, nothing was ever built there, and over 250 buyers, mostly from Southern California, lost all of their money.

6. Trump at Cap Cana, Dominican Republic.  Once again, promises of luxury not delivered.  People bought $306 Million dollars worth of lots to allow them to build next to the great resort golf courses, hotels and tower, but almost nothing was built and almost everyone lost all of their money...except for Trump.

7. Trump Dubai Tower, United Arab Emirates. This is a project that fell through in part because of comments Trump made regarding banning Muslims.  His face was taken off of billboards and a Dubai-based Landmark Group also announced that it was removing Trump décor products from 180 Lifestyle stores in the region because "it values and respects the sentiments of its customers." In an interview with CNN later, Emirati billionaire Khalaf alHabtoor, announced he canceled the deal for the Trump International Hotel and tower near Dubai, branding his former business associate "the biggest enemy of Islam."

8. Trump on the Ocean. The state of New York shot down Trump's plans for a massive project for an 80,000 square foot ocean front restaurant and catering hall on the boardwalk on Long Island 4 times, which led to lawsuits the state won.  Finally New York signed off on  a 400 seat restaurant and enormous events space, just four months to the day before Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk.  Neighbors were also very mad about the massive building obstructing views of the ocean.

9. GoTrump.com travel booking service. Trump launched a luxury travel search engine in 2006, and it shut down a year later.

10. Trump Shuttle (Trump Airlines).  In 1988, Trump purchased Eastern Air Shuttle, a service that had run hourly flights between Boston, New York City, and Washington D.C..  He paid roughly $365 Million, and got a fleet of 17 Boeing 727s, landing facilities in each of the three cities and the right to paint his name on an airplane.  Trump decided to "upscale" the planes and make the service more high class.  The problem with that was the customer base didn't want luxury.  The customer base used the service previously because of the convenience of the flights, not the luxury.  Gas prices at the time and a customer base that decided to look elsewhere caused Trump to default on his loans, and the creditors ended up owning the business.  The Trump Shuttle ceased to exist as of 1992.

11. Running Horse Golf, Fresno. Trump tried to strong arm leadership in Fresno into providing free property tax indefinitely and other concessions in order for him to come in, buy property for $30 million to develop a world class golf course.  Trump never offered to put up any of his own money to buy the parcel of land, and one of the Fresno leaders stated it was a jumbled mess.  Trump eventually backed out when the city refused to provide the major concessions.

12. Trump Magazine. Trump tried in 2007 to be like Oprah and start a self-branded magazine.  It lasted a whole year-and-a-half before ceasing publication.

13. Trump Network. With the Trump Network, the billionaire pitched a "recession-proof" opportunity during the economic downturn in 2009.  The Trump Network relied on participants to sell health supplements and other products, person to person.  This was not a revolutionary idea by any means.  Beginner sales people were told to buy a $497 'starter kit' of Trump products so they could get in on the soon-to-be billion-dollar business.  over 20,000 independent sales representatives bought the Trump Network products and tried to recruit others to sell them too, but within two-and-a-half years, the "recession-proof' business collapsed.  People were asked to take a urine test they would send in and get custom vitamins to match their needs, which many subject matter experts said was ridiculous and not based on actual science.  In order to make the brand look better, Trump suggested that a Harvard Expert, Dr. David Ludwig, had endorsed the products.  That, in True Trump fashion, was a total and outright lie.  The Trump network was forced to apologize to the Doctor after he found out and was mortified that his name was attached to the company.

14. Trump Steaks by Sharper Image (no, that is not a typo). In 2007, Trump was featured on the cover of the Sharper Image catalog to kick off his line of "World's Greatest" steaks.  He tried selling the 'premium' meat through a website initially, but then struck a deal to sell the meat through the Sharper Image...no, I can't figure out how that could possibly fail either.

15. Brand licensing in Brazil. Trump had numerous projects in Brazil that the Trump organization cancelled or pulled out of and cited the projects were behind and it was just standard housekeeping, although the real reason may be a bit more detailed than that.  Almost immediately thereafter, a federal prosecutor in Brazil opened a criminal inquiry that included both the Trump Towers Rio and Trump Hotel Rio as part of a larger ongoing federal investigation into graft involving Brazilian pension funds.

16. Trump Vodka. Donald Trump signed with Drinks Americas in 2005 to promote Trump Vodka.  The Trump Vodka brand was discontinued in 2011 in the United States due to sales failing to meet company threshold requirements.  Reasons for this included the fact that Trump, himself is not a drinker, and that the production cost of the bottles was in excess of what Drinks America could produce in large numbers.  Trump Vodka was not an asset listed on the documents Trump submitted during his campaign for President to the Federal Election Committee.

17. Trump Mortgage. In 2006, Trump launched a Mortgage company, stating that it would soon be the nations biggest home lender.  Trump said, "Who knows more about financing than me?" Within a year-and-a-half, the business went belly up with the housing bubble bursting and because of poor hiring.  The executive Trump chose to run his lending company, E.J. Ridings, was claimed to be a top executive at a top ranked investment bank.  In reality, the highest role he had held on Wall Street was as a registered broker for 6 whole days.

18. Trump Casinos. In 2009, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection for the third time in a row.

19. Trump University. Trump started a Non-Accredited, for-profit University in 2005 called Trump University.  In 2010, students sued the University for offering classes that amounted to extended infomercials.  After that suit completed, Trump changed the name of the University to 'The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative.  One year later, operations ceased.  In 2013, Trump was sued for $40 Million for defrauding students.

20. Trump The Game. In 1988 Donald Trump worked with Parker Brothers to put out 'Trump The Game', a monopoly style game of buying and selling properties.  The game failed to sell as expected and was cancelled.  Trump again, in 2004 when the Apprentice became popular, tried to bring the game back with the all-famous 'You're Fired!' slogan attached.  It once again ended up failing.

21. Trump Ice.  Trump bottled water labeled with a smiling picture of himself and called it 'Trump Ice' and was pushed as one of the highest quality spring waters in the world.  It no longer exists, but he still does have bottled water with his brand on it that is used in his hotels and casinos.

22. The New Jersey Generals.  They were a USFL team before the USFL merged with the NFL.  Donald Trump owned them, then dropped out, then came back.  The eventual collapse of the USFL has been blamed on Donald Trump, who was trying to get the Generals to join the NFL in kind of a backroom manner.  Lisa Edelstein, who played Dr. Cuddy on 'House', talked about when she was a cheerleader for the Generals at the age of 16, and that the cheer squad was forced to hang out in bars in their skimpy clothing, even though many of them were minors.

23. Miss USA/NBC/Univision. After his speech declaring Mexican undocumented immigrants 'rapists', Univision decided to completely pull out of their deal with Trump, refusing to show the pageant.  Not long after, NBC followed suit.

24. Tour De Trump. In 1989 Trump decided to sponsor an event he said would rival the Tour De France.  Big names showed up the first year, but Trump had money troubles and dumped out of the sponsorship in 1990.  DoPont took over and changed the name to The Tour DuPont, but it ended completely in 1996.

25. Trump Taj Mahal Bankruptcy. In 1991 Trump filed his first bankruptcy and probably the most painful of them all.  To attain the funds he needed, he sold a 282-foot yacht, as well as the Trump Shuttle (Trump Airlines).  He had to give up half of his ownership stake in the Trump Taj Mahal, but retained control of the property.  His largest creditor was holding $400 Million in bonds.

26. Trump Castle Associates Bankruptcy. In 1992, Trump was back in bankruptcy court for his other Atlantic City Casinos.  This bankruptcy included the Trump Plaza Hotel in New York, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City as well as the Trump Castle Casino Resort.  He gave up half his interest in the New York Plaza to Citibank, but retained his stake in the casinos.

27. Trump Hotel & Casino Resorts Bankruptcy. In 2004, Trump filed bankruptcy once again to shed debt at his various Atlantic City Casinos and a riverboat in Indiana.  The company shed $500 Million in debt and emerged from bankruptcy the following may.  Trump turned over majority control of the company to his bondholders, but remained the largest single shareholder, and he once again kept control of his casinos.

28. Trump Entertainment Resorts Bankruptcy. In 2009, after the company missed a $53.1 Million dollar bond payment, Trump filed bankruptcy again.  This was pretty much the end of the road for Trump in Atlantic City.  While his name remained on all three casinos, he resigned from the board and gave up his remaining stake in the company. The two Atlantic City casinos that still had the Trump name filed for bankruptcy yet again in 2014, at which time Trump made sure people knew he was no longer running the company.

Well, as I stated, this is not an all-inclusive list of the failures of Trump, but it does hit on some of the major ones.  Now, Trump, as I said, holds his last name in the most highly regarded place in the world.  It is more important than anything to him, and he has ran smear campaigns for decades against anyone who has challenged his namesake.

When Trump is wrong in a business deal, or when Trump is found to have left investors holding the bag, he spends time and money trying to make it all look like someone else's fault.

So fast forward to today.  Here we are, with Donald J. Trump as the President of the United States.  Many of us are still surprised a year-and-a-half later that it even happened, but it is time to accept the reality of our situation.  Trump has done some very shady things throughout his life, to include cheating on his now wife Melania.  It is obvious to normal people that his repeated denials over the past couple years have been complete lies.  We now have a tape that clearly identifies Trump was fully aware of the payoff for the playboy playmate before the election, even though he denied everything.

He is in absolute damage control right now, and he doesn't care what happens to anyone or anything around him as long as he keeps his name, in his mind, clean.

The question of the day is simple, "To what lengths will Donald Trump go in order to save his own ass?"  It is important for one very big reason.  Before January of 2017, Trump could fail all he wanted to and it didn't affect anyone but his organization and those who invested or partnered with him.  Now, every thing he says and every thing he does affects everyone; every United States citizen, and everyone around the world, as being the President of the United States is the most powerful position to hold on the Planet Earth.  That is horribly concerning to me now that I really know what type of person Trump is.

Trump would rather see the world burn around him than ever accept blame or admit guilt.  That should greatly concern everyone in this country, but what concerns me the most is that there are people around the world who seem well more concerned than Trump's base does here in the States.  I personally don't know how that is possible considering everything he has said and done out in the open, not to mention everything we don't know about that has yet to come to light.

I laughed the other day because I was talking with an individual who supports Trump and they said, "Every President has lied." during our conversation.  I replied back that they were correct.  Every President in history told lies, but that this President, Donald Trump, has told several thousand lies; this President lies more than he tells the truth.  This president cannot open his mouth without either telling an outright lie or seriously manipulating the facts.  How that isn't concerning to everyone baffles me.

My point to this blog is really to point out how many things Trump has been involved in that have failed and horribly affected other people.  Just look at the bankruptcies alone.  He shed debt at a rate no other has through bankruptcy, and he calls himself the best real estate mogul there is.

We NEED to be concerned, and we need to stand up and vote for congressional candidates who will fight to get to the bottom of this President's involvement in any number of things that the current Congressional Leadership refuses to look into.

Our country is in peril, and I don't say that lightly.  Stand up and vote.  Stand up and convince others to vote.  Pay attention to the facts, not the misdirection.  Stand up and demand that we have better leadership in Washington.  We have the power in this country.  We are 326.7 Million strong, and yet everything is falling apart around us, and around the world.

Realize your worth and your power as a voter, and use that realization to make change, because change cannot occur from your couch, but it can from the ballot box.

So what is the End Game for Trump?  He wants to be an autocrat, which is exactly what he has been as a business man for decades.  That isn't going to work as President, unless we allow it to.  Withholding information on calls with foreign leaders, not putting out what exactly was discussed in the private Putin meeting, denigrating the media that doesn't agree with him, denigrating others to include companies that stand up to him, threatening to take clearances away from those who speak out against him, refusing to allow a pool reporter into an open briefing because you didn't like the questions they asked earlier in the day, etc.

These things are all bold signs of what is to come.  We all need to beware of the end game here, because right now, more than half of Congress is going along with it.

Until next time!

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
