Diversion at its best...

I thought of this Blog after I watched a 32 minute interview between Chris Cuomo, CNN Television Journalist, and Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to the President.  The interview consisted of Kellyanne refusing to answer direct questions, continuously diverting to subjects completely opposite of the questions she was asked, and her talking over Cuomo the entire time.

This is the way of the Trump Presidency, and Kellyanne does it better than most.  She can talk in an interview for over a half-hour and never once answer one direct question.  She uses the questions to insert talking points not relevant to the conversation.

She spends the majority of her time in an interview refusing to answer questions or talking around them by spouting off the number of times CNN covers other stories, and talking about how the media doesn't give the president a fair shake on the things he does that are great for the country.

What I like about Chris Cuomo is that he doesn't bend over and take it from anyone.  He calls them out for their rhetoric and continues to press for answers.  One of the topics in this interview were the outright lies the president has told about his knowledge of the hush payments to the two women prior to the election.  Trump originally said he wasn't aware of any payments, then shifted to being aware of them but much later, and then a tape came out with him and Cohen talking about one of the payments well before it was ever made.  He stacks the lies up with every tweet and every speech, and Cuomo was challenging Kellyanne about just that.

She refused to answer questions about his lies for most of the interview, talking about how they have been addressed and he said he didn't know.  So then Chris did something great.  Since Kellyanne was standing behind the president and his lies, Chris changed the question and asked Kellyanne if she could say with certainty that the president is telling the truth.  Once again, she refused to answer and diverted the conversation to the canned talking points she always does.

So we have Trump, the President of the United States, spouting off lies every time he tweets or opens his mouth.  We have Giuliani, Trump's lawyer, going on television shows spouting off deflections and outright lies about the investigations surrounding the President, and saying ridiculous things like "Truth is not Truth", denigrating the media, denigrating investigators and investigations, and using outright lies to set up his client to look like a victim rather than a perpetrator when everything comes public.

Beyond Trump and Giuliani, there is a group of surrogates, including Kellyanne Conway, who are out in the media spouting off ridiculous talking points to try and make the President's (pardon my French) shit show look like a masterpiece to his base.  They try to turn every conversation to talks about the "great" and "tremendous" things Trump has done since becoming president.

One of the problems with the president's talking points is that he is taking full credit for some things that have been in the works for years.  Let's look at unemployment for instance.  Unemployment has been on a continuous and steady decline since 2010 under Obama.  Trump has done nothing to affect that trend, but is taking full credit for the unemployment rate being so low today.  If you look up the statistics, they don't point toward any actions Trump has taken as being part of the reason the rate has lowered.  Sure, give him credit for the rate being low, but don't give him full credit for it.  This started many years before he took office.

Anyway, the lies stack up on a daily basis from the President, his surrogates, the Press Secretary, and of course, FOX News.  The President bases almost everything he says and tweets off of what he watches on FOX.  That should be greatly concerning to most people.  How about you use your intelligence community to provide proper briefings to you....since of course you are the President of the United States.

With Cohen turning himself in and working with the FBI, Manafort on the verge of flipping likely before his second trial is complete, the Mr. Pecker at the Enquirer gaining immunity from prosecution for working with the FBI, and today Trump's own long running CFO receiving immunity from prosecution for working with authorities, Trump's world is closing in on itself very quickly.

Trump and his team are about to severely ramp up the rhetoric, lies, misdirections, and diversions to a level we have never seen before, and the results of this all are probably going to make Watergate look like child's play.  So strap in for a ride we will likely all see in the history books for future generations, because this train is going off the rails here very soon.

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
