Today is a day that will go down in the history books of the United States. It is a day during which members of Congress must adhere to their solemn duty to uphold the Constitution and cast votes that will determine if the President of the United States is to be Impeached by the House. This has happened very few times in our country's history, which is why it is such an important day.
Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress are the two Articles of Impeachment that are to be voted on. These hinge upon the actions taken by Trump to withhold approved aid from a foreign government until that government went public and announced they would be launching an investigation into a political rival of the President of the United States. The money was withheld and a visit to the White House was also withheld. This is factually proven through interviews, transcripts, and testimony.
Second, and more overt in nature, is the charge of Obstruction of Congress. The GOP has been screaming that no first hand witnesses have testified, even though some have. While they screamed, the President of the United States ordered all of the most powerful and knowledgeable witnesses not to testify before congress. The President also supplied zero documents to Congress for the investigation, essentially putting up a wall between the Administration and Congress.
These things are evident, but the GOP continues to gaslight and mislead people by twisting facts and omitting facts in their talking points. The most ridiculous thing about all of this is that the Ukraine conspiracy theory has been long debunked, as has the Biden conspiracy theory.
The United States, including Joe Biden at the time, ousted the individual from Ukraine not because they were investigating Hunter Biden, but because the United States and many other countries agreed that the individual was not addressing or investigating corruption. Now, do I believe Hunter should have been given a position to make 50 thousand dollars a month? No, of course not, but that is a separate and not illegal issue.
There is so much more to the story, but I want to keep this blog brief. If we look at just these two Articles of Impeachment, there is ample evidence the President is guilty on both counts. In addition to that, we also know that the President conducted campaign finance violations regarding his affairs with a porn star and playmate. Hell, his former lawyer is in prison for the very facilitation of that now.
We have ample evidence in the Mueller Report regarding 10 separate instances of Obstruction that were identified. On 5 of those instances, over 1000 former federal prosecutors from both parties signed a letter saying there was already enough evidence present to convict the President on 5 separate counts of obstruction.
There have been so many overt abuses of power and improper/illegal acts performed by the President that if we removed Trump from the picture and inserted any other President in history into the presidency having done and said the same things, Impeachment would have occurred long ago.
What we have right now is a GOP that is scared they won't get reelected if they stand against a criminal president. We have a GOP that is putting the importance of reelection above what is best for the American Populous and the country, and that is disgraceful to say the least.
Intertwined with the over 15,000 lies the President has told, I recall one thing he said that I felt was ridiculous at the time, but truly believe now. A group of 10 people who voted for Trump were re-interviewed a few months ago by a news agency. Some had changed their minds but over half were steadfast in their belief that Trump is the greatest president ever. The journalist asked one woman if she would feel the same way if Trump actually shot someone on Fifth Avenue. This was a reference back to Trump who had famously said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and he wouldn't lose support from his base. The woman responded to the question by asking, "Why did he shoot someone on 5th Avenue?" Under normal circumstances that question would be fine, but this was a reference to Trump's famous quote in which he was referencing shooting someone in cold blood.
This is where we are. It doesn't matter how many racist comments Trump makes, how many misogynistic comments Trump makes, how many minorities Trump denigrates, how many times Trump makes fun of disabled reporters or calls the Press the Enemy of the People. None of it matters because his rock solid base just doesn't care.
I will end this by saying I hope that those of you out there who may be Trump supporters take the time to read the Mueller Report, and the reports and testimony that has come out of the congressional investigation, and the memo or partial transcript of the Ukraine call, and the things Trump has said and done while President. Look at all of those things objectively because I have. I read every page of every document because I want all of the information.
After you review all of that information, if you still feel Trump has done nothing deserving of Impeachment, let me know, because I want to have a conversation with you to hear from you why you feel that way after reviewing all of the evidence and facts. Every other developed country in the world knows our President is corrupt. The fact we don't as a whole truly concerns me.
Have a wonderful night, and know that the Impeachment Vote today is historical.
