I have always had a more Centerist viewpoint when it comes to politics. Historically I have voted for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents in local, state, and national elections. There was a time when there was more individual thought in politics, and more politicians willing to challenge the status quo in Washington to stand up for what is right.
I don't see that in today's Washington. I see a 2 party system that is broken, and a country being led by a man who has been described in many ways (all with factual backing); including but not limited to the following:
Racist
Xenophobe
Misogynist
Sociopath
Narcissist
Bigot
Pathological Liar
Completely Lacks Empathy
Sexual Harasser
Philanderer
Don't get me wrong, this country has had bad leaders before. Our country has bad leaders now at the local, state and federal levels of the government aside of the presidency. I look at this one man, Donald Trump, and wonder how he can have even a 36% approval rating after what he has done and said over the past 2 1/2 years.
I get it. People were fed up with the dynasty and wanted anyone but Hillary. I get that in all of its glory. But do people realize that it is possible to be a Republican without supporting Donald Trump?
Trump represents all of the things that are horrible about America that need to be fixed.
1. He is a man who has repeatedly cheated on his wives in the past, and even paid some women off to be silent as he transitioned to the presidency. Those affairs went on while Trump had a new child at home. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
2. He is a man who has at least 22 Rape, Sexual Misconduct, and Sexual Harassment claims against him since the 80s, and he continues to claim that all of the women are liars, and has talked of some in a manner that degrades them further, by saying things like, "Look at her, she isn't even my type". I didn't realize he had a type of person he would sexually harass or rape. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
3. He is a man who has lied countless Thousands of times to the American Public (last count was over 12,000 and counting). He literally lies nearly every time he speaks at this point. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
4. He is a man who has repeatedly spoken and tweeted about people who have a different skin color than him as if they are worth less than white Americans. He has denigrated 2 minority gold star families, NFL players, news correspondents, an American judge of Mexican descent, people who he says come from 'Shit Hole Countries' (all of which are non-white), Muslims, and countless others. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
5. He is a man who has made horrible denigrating comments toward many different women. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
6. He is a man who has praised on many occasions Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt, Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, and Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia. In fact, Trump has sided with Putin, Un, and MBS instead of his own Intelligence Agencies on multiple occasions. It is sickening on its face, as he treats these dictators better than American Allies around the world. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
7. He is a man who has used the term, "Enemy of the People", to describe the American Free Press. This is a term used historically only by murderous dictators, but he has used the term now hundreds of times to describe the press in America that publishes stories he doesn't like. If you publish stories that paint Trump in a positive light, you are a great news agency, but if you publish the truth about what he says and does, you are the 'Enemy of the People'. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
8. He is a man who refuses to listen to Climate Scientists from around the world who have collectively documented how horrible the world Climate Crisis is. He doesn't believe it, and has pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord, has failed to go the G7 Climate meeting the last 2 years, has been opening up government lands in America for drilling, has appointed people to the EPA to have them slowly dismantle regulations to make large corporate donars happy, and has done so many things to make the climate worse rather than better. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
9. He is a man who started a policy of separating children from their families at the border in order to put more stress on them and make them not want to come to the United States. Many hundreds of children will never be reunited with their families because of horrible record keeping and tracking mechanisms being put into place. He continually tries to deny that he started this policy and says that Obama started it. That is yet another lie. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
10. He is a man who has pissed off and denigrated almost every ally the United States has either by phone, tweet, or in person on the world stage. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
11. He is a man who feels no empathy what-so-ever. He threw paper towels at the homeless in Puerto Rico after a horrible Hurricane hit. He has continually talked about Puerto Rico as if it isn't home of about 3 million Americans. When a storm was baring down on them yet again, instead of putting out a heartfelt message, Trump decided to spew vitriol at the leadership of Puerto Rico. He talks about those who are running from certain death or horrible conditions in their home countries who travel thousands of miles on foot to seek asylum in the United States as if they are all rapists, murderers, and drug smugglers. He doesn't care about anything but himself, and refuses to ever accept blame for anything. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
12. He is a man who got a tax cut bill passed for the rich who have benefited from it immensely, but provided little to no relief for the middle and lower class. He has cut money to extremely important organizations, and continues to make decisions that negatively affect middle and lower class families across the country. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
13. He is a man who enacts unconstitutional tariffs against countries and continues in a trade war with China. Farmers in America have lost generational contracts for their goods, and Trump's answer is to give Farmers a bailout in the United States; a bailout that is centered more around providing the majority of the relief to the large farmers and little to nothing to the smaller farmers. Farmers are losing their asses, and even if there is a easing of the retaliatory tariffs, most Farmers will take years to begin trying to get contracts back that they had for decades. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
14. He is a man who shut the country down for a record amount of time because he didn't want to admit he was wrong about something. There were so many government employees who had to take out loans and get help to survive without pay while the shutdown was going on, and many government employees had to continue working without pay during the whole shutdown. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
15. He is a man who committed numerous, documented acts of obstruction that would have led to any former president being impeached. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base. These acts are clearly defined within the Mueller Report and supported by evidence. In fact, over 1000 former government lawyers signed a letter basically stating that there's enough evidence to put the president away for at least 5 crimes. Evangelicals love him in spite of this, as does his die hard base.
Look, I could go on for days with this stuff, which is why I am so concerned right now. How can anyone support this president after everything he has said and done? How is it possible? I truly want to know, because he hasn't fulfilled any promises. Not 1 foot of new wall is being built yet, the tax cut was for the rich and corporations and not the middle and lower class, he is ruining the environment with his dismantling of the EPA and regulatory requirements, they are looking at cuts to Medicare and Social Security, and well, he's just a horrible human being by every definition of the word. By the way, Trump has exceeded the EIGHT YEAR Obama total for travel costs in just 2 1/2 years. Remember when Trump said he wouldn't be golfing and would be at the White House working his ass off? Well he isn't, and he's travelling on our dime to his own properties and making a fortune off of it (emoluments clause). There's another subject all together.
So I am changed in my political approach moving forward in 2020. What used to be a 'Vote for the best candidate regardless of party' approach, will now be a #VoteBlueNoMatterWho approach to ensure the president in January of 2021 is not Trump, and to ensure the Democrats win both houses of Congress and control the narrative moving forward.
Anyway, I can't think about this any more tonight, so I am signing off...Evangelicals, you may want to read the Bible you purport to hold so dear to your way of life, and die hard Trumpers, you may want to grow some morals.
