The Day After

So where are we a day removed from one of the most important elections in our lives?  We are in a place where more checks and balances will be in place over the next 2 years than were for the past 2 years.

The Republicans controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency up until the election.  Now, the Republicans retain control of the Senate and Presidency, but lose control of the House.

That is a huge win for the Democrats as a whole, as it opens doors that have been closed for a long time.

So what can we expect to see happen in the coming months?

First, I would expect that Robert Mueller will come out with new Indictments and a fairly thorough report very soon.  He has been silently investigating now for the past couple months, waiting on the Mid-Term Election to be complete, before bringing much of what he has gathered forward.

I would expect that Don Jr. will be indicted soon, among others.  I would also expect to see the Democrat controlled House to begin many investigations into things they have been handcuffed on for the past 2 years.  We will hear a lot about Trump, his Tax Returns (of which the Democrats in the House will likely demand to see), family corruption, Russia Russia Russia, and more.

Mueller has many people who have been singing like canaries for months now, and he has likely been able to connect many pieces of the puzzle that is Trump/Russia; pieces that he had a difficult time until recent months finding ways to connect.  I think we are likely to be surprised as to the depth of the investigation Mueller has completed, and the amount of credible information he has gathered as a result.

There will be more Indictments.  There will be more guilty pleas.  This will get closer and closer to the Commander-in-Chief.

The President will likely oust Jeff Sessions, if Jeff doesn't leave willingly very soon.  That is where things get a bit scary.  The person Trump appoints to take over for Sessions will likely not be recused from the Russia Investigation, so depending upon who Trump chooses, there could be a possibility of Jeff's replacement trying to shut it all down or stop the investigation findings from becoming public.

That is where the new Democratic House comes in.  If there is any threat to the Mueller Investigation, or if Trump tries to have Mueller Fired, the House will jump in and have Mueller take part in a public hearing to present all of his findings and answer questions.

If Jeff leaves or is ousted, there is a good chance Rod is not far behind, which could change everything.

Trump is mad, and scared.  Of the candidates he travelled to support and 'lift up', his record as of today is 12 of them won, and 21 of them lost.  So it is pretty evident that the 'Trump Bump' wasn't quite as strong as he thought it would be.  Regardless of what he says, he knows he is in a far more precarious situation than he was in yesterday, and his internal struggle will likely have him saying, tweeting, and doing some outrageous things; as well as continuing to lie almost every time he opens his mouth to speak.

The goal of the Democrats in the House at this point is to get all of the facts surrounding the investigations into Trump out in the open to show the world how corrupt he truly is.  The difficult part about what will happen moving forward is impeachment.  You see, the House will be able to impeach Trump if there is enough evidence, as that only takes a simple majority in the House.  What they cannot do is oust him from office, as that will take a 2/3 majority in the Senate, which the Democrats don't have.  They don't even have a simple majority in the Senate.  So if it does come to impeachment, he will likely be impeached, but continue to work like Bill Clinton did after he was impeached.

The most important difference today, however, are checks and balances.  Those didn't exist under a Republican controlled congress with a Republican President.  They do exist now with the House being controlled by the Democrats.

If you thought there were drop down and drag out fights before the Mid-Term Election, you haven't seen anything yet.  The next 2 years are going to go down in the history books.  Mark my words now and refer back to this blog in several months.  This is about to get REAL.

Trump and the DOJ Trying to Silence Mueller...

Mueller is set to sit in front of Congress on Wednesday this week and answer questions regarding the Mueller Investigation.  The DOJ, and organization that is supposed to look out for the best interests of America but has recently decided to become Trump's personal Law Firm, has sent correspondence to Mueller about what he can and cannot answer. For instance, you have the question of the 10 documented cases of obstruction in volume 2 of the report.  Mueller made it clear that he was bound by DOJ policy and could not indict a sitting president.  One very important question the Congressional Leadership will likely ask is, "If Donald Trump wasn't the sitting President, would you have indicted him based on the amount of evidence in the report?"  That question in every respect is fair.  You are asking the head of an investigation if they would have indicted someone had an arbitrary roadblock not been in place.  I say arbitrary roadblock because the policy is...

Let's talk about kids

So here we are, waiting patiently and watching what the government is doing to reunite children with their parents who have been separated at the border.  The government said all it would take was a few key strokes and they could immediately identify which children were where and get them reunited.  Interesting comment considering that we are now past the court mandated timeframe within which the government was mandated by the court to reunite the 102 children under the age of 5 with their parents.  They had a month to do it, and only managed to reunite around 54 children by the deadline.  They have resorted to taking DNA samples from children and parents to try to match them up in a database because the process they used to separate these children from their parents didn't take into consideration the reunification process, so in most cases they have no idea which children match up to which parents. Instead of the President taking a more compassionate approach to...

Technology, the Double Edged Sword

Technology is an amazing thing isn't it?  Look at the evolution of the computer.  Below I am providing a history of the evolution of the computer.  It is not all-inclusive, but does document some very important moments in history starting in 1801 and ending in 2017.  If you aren't a huge reader, you can jump past the history lesson to the remainder of my blog below, but it is very interesting and I recommend you read through it.  In France in 1801, Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that used punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs.  Early computers would use similar punch cards. In 1822, an English Mathematician named Charles Babbage conceived of a steam-driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers.  The project was funded by the English government and was a failure.  More than a century later, however, the first computer was actually built in the world. In 1890, Herman Hollerith designed ...
